The American Land Title Association (ALTA) and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) has adopted a set of standards for surveyors to use when preparing an ALTA survey. The standards were designed to give the title insurer, the buyer, and/or the lender a survey showing where buildings, easements and certain improvements are located in relationship to the boundaries of the subject property. The latest adoption of these standards was in 2006. These standards can be viewed or downloaded through the ACSM website
